
When Scott Morrison made his maiden parliamentary speech in 2008, he drew attention to the importance of foreign aid. The newly elected backbencher commended the Rudd government for its commitment to boost aid but said “we still must go further” in responding to the needs of poor communities in developing countries. “The need is not diminishing, nor can our support,” he said. “It is the Australian thing to do.”
